Critical Care Medical Liaison
Got the Big Pharma Blues?
A small, high-growth Biopharmaceutical company is building a field based Medical Affairs team and needs a Medical Science Liaison / Sr. MSL to help take them to the next level. If you're looking for a ground floor opportunity in an emerging company with huge upside potential then this could be the opportunity for you. This 5 year old, privately held organization has been active in Europe for years and is now launching their first product in the U.S., a breakthrough drug for the treatment of thrombosis in the critical care market. This unique molecule has significant clinical advantages that differentiate it from others in this market, and we now need a medical affairs professional to assist in the launch of this drug and to help establish a scientific presence in the U.S.
Responsibilities
As part of the initial team of five MSLs, you will develop relationships and work closely with Key Opinion Leaders in the Thrombosis field to discuss a new heparin-free agent for DVT prophylaxis in the acute care setting. Primary duties include presenting clinical information about the drug in public forums and one-on-one meetings, identifying and developing advocates for the company and product, training speakers and providing them with literature searches, slides and other clinical information. You will be regarded as a scientific expert on the drug by KOL's, internal customers, and commercial partners. The MSL/Sr. MSL must have very strong interpersonal and public speaking skills, and be able to effectively discuss business in a broad range of professional and social settings You will also support the sales and marketing activities of the organization on a routine basis.
In this exciting start-up environment you will not be given a set of instructions and "metrics" to follow; you will be expected to create a road-map for success in developing the market for this drug and differentiating it from other therapeutic alternatives. You will focus on a short list of targeted hospitals in your assigned territory and work with thought leaders in those institutions to ensure that it is the drug of choice for appropriate situations. You will be expected to stay abreast of the latest scientific research in the treatment and prevention of thrombosis, and be able to gain access and communicate that information effectively. The MSL/Sr. MSL will also maximize educational opportunities available at scientific congresses and medical conferences; overnight travel is estimated at 40%.
